SEGA has announced this morning via the PlayStation Blog that Valkyria Revolution, the next entry in the Valkyria series, will be releasing in North America for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita on June 27. Originally released over in Japan as Valkyria Azure Revolution, this title is not a direct sequel to any of the previous Valkyria games, and is instead viewed internally as more of a spinoff game. Reason being, the game is set in an entirely different timeline and continent than any of the ones that came before, and also features a different style of combat that veterans to the first may have to adjust to.
Instead of a World War II influence, the game is inspired by the European industrial revolution and focuses on a war of liberation between two vastly different nations. But arguably the biggest difference is the battle system. The turn-based action has been replaced with faster-paced (but no less strategic) combat. This hybrid battle system combines the tactics of customizing squad behavior and loadouts with real-time action for some pretty intense moments on the field.
We’ll spare all of the details in order to avoid spoiler territory since the release is only three months away, but there are more details to be found if you want by checking out the PlayStation Blog article we linked above.
Also announced today was Vanargand Edition for pre-orders of the game and those that are lucky enough to find a limited stock of this physical PlayStation 4 launch edition in stores. The Valkyria Revolution Vanargand Edition will include the following:
- A bold pin inscribed with the Vanargand’s ferocious coat of arms
- Soundtrack (12 tracks) from Yasunori Mitsuda of Chrono Trigger fame
- A stunning outer box exclusive to the Vanargand Edition
- Copy of Valkyria Revolution
We absolutely loved Valkyria Chronicles Remastered when it was released on PlayStation 4, and cannot wait to jump back into this franchise with Valkyria Revolution. Stick with Level Down Games, as we’ll have continued coverage on this leading up to the release date on June 27.
