Holy crap! Can you believe the last original article or opinion piece we wrote here on Level Down Games was over 365 days ago? In fact, the last one we did was on June 18, 2017 for the WWE Money in the Bank Predictions. That’s way too long without original content, opinions, and thoughts here on Level Down Games. So I’m sitting here in the middle of the night contemplating and thinking. Before we really dive back into the content, I feel I owe it to you, the loyal reader, on what exactly has been transpiring since June of 2017.
As you may or may not be aware, Level Down Games entered into a partnership with a local crew by the name of SuperGen in May 2017. From the beginning of May until the end of June in 2017, we barely had any new content on our website. The only thing we were putting on it were WWE PPV Prediction articles, podcast videos, and a few reviews. Due to differences in direction and what we wanted to focus on, we felt it would be best for Level Down Games to branch back out of SuperGen and become it’s own brand once again. As far as I know, SuperGen has dissolved, which is unfortunate, as everyone involved in that group was insanely talented and funny, and they really could have flourished and done something.
When Level Down Games became it’s own brand once again at the beginning of July 2017, I sat down with Jessica and we decided it would be best to bring in a trusted close friend to really work with me to take this outlet to the next level. That’s when we brought in a long-time best friend of mine, Frank (or El Frankero, as he was known for a while around here, haha). I decided it best to try and stick with the route I fell into at SuperGen, which was to be almost completely based on videos and YouTube. Frank and I started the Max Level Podcast about video games every Monday, BGMania about video game music every Wednesday, and the Gorgeous Lads of Wrestling about professional wrestling every Thursday. We would also eventually start Game Oracles, a video games trailers show every Tuesday, and Revisiting the Classics, a weekly trip back to the past to play some retro games every Saturday. On top of that, we were doing weekly Top 10 and Ranking videos, video reviews, a nightly news report (Nightly Scoop), unboxing videos, let’s plays, and reaction videos.
Were you able to keep up with all that? Because let me be honest with you. I wasn’t. Looking at that from the outside, that’s a lot of content for one person to be recording, editing, exporting, uploading, and promoting on a weekly basis. I rapidly became burnt out and continuously questioned if I was doing the right thing or not. I believe in myself, I believe in Level Down Games, and I believe in our crew here.
We stuck on that path until the end of 2017, focusing mostly on videos and YouTube and just using the website here to put up audio versions of the podcasts for iTunes, Google Play, Stitcher, and Tune In, as well as reviews and the podcast videos. That was the extent of the outlet. No more news, no more original pieces or articles, and not even as many reviews as I had wanted to do. When Jessica and I started Level Down Games in July 2016, I wanted to be known as the go-to place for in-depth reviews of all the latest games. The way I consume games and play through them is drastically different from a majority of people that I personally know, and I have a thing for words, so I wanted to put that to use and create some really great reviews. And for the first year, we were knocking it out of the park in that department. When we switched to being mostly about videos, we started suffering. Well.. not necessarily us, but the reviews. We still were doing a couple of month, but that’s not enough.
Let’s talk about the beginning of 2018. Alongside YouTube, we felt it was time to really start exploring the avenue of Twitch. It took a few months to get up and rolling, but at the beginning of March 2018, we officially launched the Level Down Games Twitch Channel, and I was streaming on there live five, sometimes six or seven days a week. While still doing all of the content on YouTube and trying to maintain reviews and the media outlet. I have the luxury of working from home and doing what I love, but last week, I officially had to tap out to the submission hold all of this work had placed me in.
At the time of posting, it’s June 28, 2018. This week has been our first official week with the refocus of Level Down Games, and let me tell you something. I feel as if a giant weight has been lifted off of my shoulders, and I’m happier than I have been in over a year since before joining up with SuperGen.
So what is the new focus of Level Down Games? We’re all about the website and media outlet once again. Daily news articles Monday through Friday, covering the breaking news and hot of the press information you wanted to read about here on the outlet. Weekly opinion pieces with unique takes on the gaming industry and thoughts on current situation. Weekly in-depth reviews for the latest new release games, mostly written and done by myself, but you’ll occasionally see the visual novel reviews roll in from Jessica, and Frank will chip in from time to time whenever we can peel him away from his other job. Seriously.. who has another job when you can be doing this?!
Plus, we’re still doing both YouTube and Twitch, albeit scaled back. Both avenues have always been viewed as “just for fun” for us, and we’re sticking with that mantra moving forward. You’ll still be getting the video version of the Max Level Podcast every Monday at Noon and the video version of Revisiting the Classics every Friday at Noon. We have retired Game Oracles as a show, and instead, we’re doing almost daily reaction videos known as LDG Reacts! Whenever an interesting game trailer or movie trailer drops, Frank and I will be sure to have a reaction to it on the channel. We also are still putting out quality video reviews, Top 10’s and Rankings, Let’s Play videos (known as LDG Plays), and monthly predictions for upcoming wrestling PPV’s. In fact, that’s the only place you’ll be able to see our wrestling predictions moving forward. We will not be listing those on the website anymore, and they are drastically scaled back from when we were doing the Gorgeous Lads of Wrestling Podcast, which we officially terminated two weeks ago.
Now, that brings us to Twitch. We are still going to be maintaining a presence on Twitch, and I encourage you to head on over to twitch.tv/leveldowngames and follow us there if you haven’t already. Instead of weekly scheduled streams though on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays (our old schedule), we’ll just be streaming snippets from the bigger new releases whenever we have spare time, which isn’t all that often. But, we still will be using our Twitch Channel to cover major press conferences and events like E3, Gamescom, Tokyo Game Show, Paris Games Week, The Game Awards, PlayStation Experience, and anytime there’s a Nintendo Direct. We’ll also have special things like live recordings of podcasts from time to time and surprise streams!
I truly appreciate everything that Level Down Games has brought into my life over the past two years (since we’re insanely close to the two year anniversary, anyway), and I can’t wait to see what the next two, four, and even six years will bring to the table. The sky is always the limit, but you know what? We’re shooting for the stars and not even looking back at the sky. Thanks for always sticking with us here at Level Down Games, and here’s to the future!
